Dale L. Old, age 78, a longtime resident of Swanton, Ohio, died peacefully, following a brief illness, Wednesday morning, January 16, 2013 at St. Luke’s Hospital. He was born September 20, 1934 in Toledo, Ohio to James and Joy (Woodard) Old. Dale served in the U.S. Army and married his beloved wife Norma Sue Tolle on February 25, 1956. She preceded him in death on June 15, 2003.
After the service, Dale joined SOHIO, and eventually opened a full service station in Swanton on the corner of Airport Highway and Main Street, where he worked as an Independent Dealer for over 30 years. Dale was devoted to his work and was also an avid member and supporter of the Swanton Elks Lodge.
Dale is survived by his son, Garry (Cheryl) Old; daughter, Marcia Shagena; grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Maggie, Shawn, and Emily Old, and Megan and Shelby Shagena; great-grandchildren; Kingston and Kinslee; and siblings, Alvin “Bud” (Jean) Old, Marilyn Hill, and Tommy Old.
Besides his loving wife, Norma, Dale was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Dorothy; and brothers, Ralph, Jim, and twin brother, David.
Visitation will be held Friday, January 18th from 2 to 8 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home, 204 Chestnut St. in Swanton (419.826.2631). Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 19th at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home with Rev. Donna Stutzman officiating. Interment will follow at East Swanton Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Friends and Family of Northwest Ohio Development Center.
