Coach David W. Hansbarger

September 7, 1940 — November 18, 2014

David W. Hansbarger, age 74, of Swanton, Ohio, passed into eternal life, Tuesday, November 18, 2014 at St. Luke's Hospital in Maumee, following a month long battle with pneumonia. He was born September 7, 1940 in Greenville, Ohio to Wayne and Katherine (Ashman) Hansbarger.

Coach Hansbarger graduated from Ohio Northern University in 1961. He began his teaching and football coaching career at Montpelier and Parkway High Schools, before starting his 24-year career of teaching at Swanton High School and as Head Football Coach. Coach Hansbarger founded the Northwest Ohio Football Coach's Association, and in 2002, was inducted into the Ohio High School Football Coach's Hall of Fame.

He is survived by his loving wife, Ruth Redd Hansbarger. They were married January 28, 2003. Also surviving is his mother, Katherine; son, Thomas (Leigh) Hansbarger; daughter, Lori (Mark) Carchedi; 2 grandchildren, Molly and David who was named after his grandfather; 3 stepchildren, Michael and Greg Redd and Laura Perry; 12 step-grandchildren; sister, Tammy Cargill; and the mother of his children, Bettye Jo Hansbarger.

David was preceded in death by his father, Wayne Hansbarger.

Family and friends may visit Saturday, November 22nd from 11:00 a.m. to 6:45 p.m. at the Swanton High School Gymnasium, 601 N. Main St., where a Celebration of Coach's life will be held at 7:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Swanton Athletic Boosters.
