Cliva Lenora Smith, age 93, of Perrysburg, Ohio; formerly of Lyons, Ohio, died peacefully, Sunday morning, September 8, 2013 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Perrysburg. She was born July 23, 1920 in Chesterfield Township to Vern G. and Florence I. (Partridge) Pennington. On September 3, 1950, she married Harold E. Smith. He preceded her in death in December of 1987.
Cliva had a full and interesting life. She was a beauty operator, business owner, retail worker, homemaker, volunteer, and family “boss”. She was also a member of Ladies Shrine #10. Although Cliva never had any children of her own she always had kids around. Everyone called her Auntie. She taught us how to cook and clean things the right way. Although her body was failing her, her mind was alert. Cliva was strong-willed, independent and in control until the end.
Cliva is survived by her sister, Leah Belle Coller; nieces, Lenora (Kenneth) Geiger-Fairbanks and Betty Hinkle; nephews, Frederick (Susanne) Hinkle and Vernon (Diane) Hinkle; step-grandchildren, Debbie (George) Christianson, Lisa Smith, and Mike (Pam) Smith; as well as great nieces and nephews, Christine (Gary) Nickoli, Andrea (Neil) Schuller, Gigi Prystash, Cindy (Mike) Hoffman, Martha Jane (Dave) Reef, Tara (Robert) Dinndorf, Bill (Michaela) Geiger, Thomas (Vicki) Hinkle, Stephen Hinkle, and Troy (Babbette) Hinkle; step-nieces and nephews, Ken Fairbanks Jr., Cindy Weaver, Steve Fairbanks, Mike (JoAnna) Fairbanks, Randy (Laura) Fairbanks and Jenny Fairbanks, and numerous great-great nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband, Harold, Cliva was preceded in death by her parents; sister Beulah Hinkle; step-son Robert Smith, and nephew, Robert Hinkle.
Per her request graveside services will be held Saturday, September 14th at 11:00 am at Lyons Cemetery with Rev. Dr. Jerry Jones officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Kidney Foundation of Northwest Ohio or Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Annie for her loving care over the years.
