Carol L. (Householder) Falkey age 66, a beloved mother, grandmother and sister, passed away Sunday morning, July 23, 2023 at Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse, New York after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born February 15, 1957 in Toledo, Ohio to Thomas Householder and MaryLou Krause.
After graduating from Swanton High School, Carol pursued her passion for helping others by obtaining a master's degree in social work from Madonna University in Livonia, Michigan. She dedicated her career to making a positive impact on the lives of those she served and touched many hearts throughout her journey. Later in her career, she worked as a professor for Owens Community College and strived to inspire students with her vast knowledge and compassionate heart. After her teaching career at Owens, she enjoyed her retirement in New York with her daughter's family.
Carol had a love for hummingbirds. Their beauty captivated her, serving as a reminder of the delicate balance between strength and grace. She also had a love for mice and rabbits. She had a pet rabbit named Buttons that she loved dearly and unfortunately left behind. Beyond her professional accomplishments and appreciation for nature, Carol found immense joy alongside her late husband David as they embarked on sailing adventures for months at a time. The open seas became their sanctuary – a symbol of freedom and adventure that they cherished together.
Carol leaves behind a legacy of love and resilience that will continue to inspire all who were privileged enough to know her. She will be deeply missed by her daughter, Lacey (James) Gemmell; grandchildren, James and Aeliana Gemmell; siblings, Victoria (Ernie) Raker, Jeff (Grace) Householder, Mark Householder (Deb Siller), Tommy Householder, and Karl Krause; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Carol is preceded in death by her parents and her beloved husband David Falkey.
Visitation will be held Friday, July 28th from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Weigel Funeral Home in Swanton, where funeral services will begin at 7:00 pm, with Pastor Maryann Reimund officiating.
