Candice Ann Elton-Sherman, age 61, of Whitehouse, Ohio; formerly of Swanton, died unexpectedly, Saturday morning, December 4, 2010. She was born October 14, 1949 to John and Norma (Riches) Elton. After raising her children, Candy attended the University of Toledo and obtained her teaching certificate.

Candy had a passion for teaching kids. She currently was substitute teaching for Fulton County Schools and tutored several area children. She was a very creative and thoughtful person who would think outside the box. She truly loved her work.

She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, and was extremely creative with making crafts from things found in nature from her own backyard. She was an avid reader and enjoyed gardening and refinishing furniture.

Candy’s greatest joy was the time spent with her grandchildren-she adored them. She was a kid at heart herself who loved life. She enjoyed swimming, playing cards, taking the kids to the zoo – just being Memaw.

She will be greatly missed by her mother, Norma; children, Sean (Jacci) Snyder and Angie (Scott) Maple; and grandchildren, Kirstin, Chase, and Jack Snyder, and Collin and Carly Maple.

Candy was preceded in death by her father, John Elton.

Family and friends may visit Thursday, December 9th from 3 to 8 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home, 204 Chestnut St. in Swanton (419.826.2631). Services will be held Friday, December 10th at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church, 210 North Main St. in Swanton, where friends may visit 1 hour prior to the service. Pastor Barbara Jean Pope will officiate. Private interment will be held at East Swanton Cemetery at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church.
