Bruce Alan Weigel

Bruce Alan Weigel, age 63, a life-long resident of Swanton, Ohio, passed away in his home, early Sunday morning, November 25, 2012, following a 2-year battle with bladder cancer. He was born November 4, 1949 in Toledo, Ohio to Maurice and Ivah (Babcock) Weigel. He graduated from Swanton High School Class of 68’. Bruce served and protected our Country as a member of the United States Air Force. Along with working for Dana Corporation and Pilliod Cabinet Company, Bruce retired from the Swanton Local School system with over 29 years of service as a maintenance engineer, where he was known by the students as “Mr. Bruce”.

Bruce was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a member and past-president of the Black Swamp Primitive Rifleman Association, where he had the opportunity portraying living history reenactment of the French and Indian War time period. He also was a life-member of the NRA.

Bruce is survived by his loving wife, Cynthia (Dilbone) Weigel; 4 children, Sabonna (Tommy) Whitaker, David Coop, Holly Coop, and Megan Weigel; 3 grandchildren, Joshua, Taylor, and Justin Whitaker; sister, Paula Spahr; brother, Kent (Chris) Weigel; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Bruce was preceded in death by his parents, Maurice and Ivah; and brother-in-law, David Tuggle.

Family and friends may visit Tuesday, November 27th from 2 to 8 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home in Swanton. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 28th at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home with Pastor Harold Ratliff officiating. Services will conclude with Military Rites conducted by the Swanton American Legion Honor Guard. Interment will be private.

The family extends their gratitude to the nurses and staff of Community Health Professionals of Williams and Fulton Counties for their support the past final weeks.
