Brigitte Maria Bates, age 79, of Swanton, Ohio, passed away peacefully, Sunday afternoon, July 26, 2009 at St. Luke’s Hospital. She was born September 27, 1929 in Berlin, Germany to Georg Friedrich and Johanna Berta Maria Himmelmann. She obtained her nursing degree in Germany before moving to the United States. She was a nurse at St. Luke’s Hospital in the 70’s and early 80’s before retiring. She enjoyed taking care of her family, visiting with people and helping them out.

Left to cherish her memory are her children; Rose Bates, Peter (Val) Bates, Perry (Cheri) Bates, Bruce (Tammy) Bates; brother, Peter (Rose) Himmelman; and her many grandchildren, whom she loved spending every minute with.

Brigitte was preceded in death by her parents; 2 brothers and a sister.

Friends and family may visit Thursday, July 30th from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home in Swanton. Private interment will be held at Swanton Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Swanton Fire & Rescue.
