Beryl "Myrt" McClure

Beryl "Myrt" McClure, age 85, life-long resident of Swanton, Ohio, died peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, Saturday evening, June 7, 2014 at Ebeid Hospice in Sylvania. She was born May 5, 1929 in Swanton to Evan and Frances (Vaughn) Overmyer, and was a 1947 graduate of Swanton High School. On August 14, 1948, she married Rubie "Bill" McClure. Together they raised four sons.

Myrt was a life member of Trinity United Methodist Church and 12-year volunteer on the Swanton Rescue Unit. She worked for the Swanton Local District as head cook for 30 years. Her husband Bill also worked for the school district as head maintenance engineer. They both retired in 1992. Myrt was an avid and vocal spectator at all of the Swanton Bulldog sporting events. She was recognized by the Swanton Athletic Hall of Fame with an honorary varsity letter for her years of service and dedication to the Swanton Athletic Program.

When she wasn't supporting the Swanton Bulldogs, you could find her knitting or crocheting an afghan or quilt for one of her grandkids or great-grandkids. She was an accomplished seamstress, who was known for making wedding dresses and men's dress suits. Myrt's other hobbies included collecting hummels and dragonfly art.

She is survived by her devoted husband of 66 years, Bill, who for the last two years, provided care for her in their home during her battle with alzheimer's. Also surviving are her sons, Patrick (Rebecca) McClure, Michael (Deborah) McClure, Kim (Diane) McClure and Sean (Patricia) McClure; 9 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Myrt was preceded in death by her parents, and siblings, Eileen, Ellis, Marilyn, Janice and Arthur.

Family and friends may visit Wednesday, June 11th from 3 to 8 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home in Swanton (419.826.2631). Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 12th at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home with her grandson, Pastor Michael O'Shea officiating. Interment will follow at Fulton Union Cemetery.
