Ava Jean Goin

Ava Jean Goin, age 80, of Swanton, Ohio, passed away Saturday morning, June 16, 2012 at St. Luke’s Hospital, with her family at her bedside. She was born September 1, 1931 in Prestonburg, Kentucky to Richard and Callie (Wilkerson) Melton.

Ava worked at R&R Plastics for 23 years, retiring in 1996. She was a former member of Swanton Alliance Church. Ava enjoyed working crossword puzzles and word search; watching Young and the Restless, Local News, Nascar, and wrestling; as well as listening to country music.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Ron Melton, Donna Goin, Van (Angela) Goin, Vonda Colling, and Christina Carter; 13 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; brother, Donald Melton; and four-legged companion, Puuch.

Ava was preceded in death by her parents; infant son, Gary Eugene; brothers, Verlon and Harold Melton; son-in-law, Mike Colling; and stepson, Steve Goin.

Friends and family may visit Wednesday, June 20th from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home in Swanton. Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 21st at 11:00 a.m. in the Funeral Home with Rev. Donna Stutzman officiating. Interment will follow at South Swanton Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
