Arthur Raymond Schmidlin, 95, formerly of Swanton, Ohio, passed away peacefully Tuesday morning, July 16, 2013. He was born June 25, 1918 in Toledo, the seventh of nine children, to Frederick John Schmidlin and Anna (Kuhlman) Schmidlin. Art was a lifelong farmer who also loved fishing, golf and travel. He will be remembered fondly by his large family for his sense of humor, devotion to family and work ethic.

Art’s father started Schmidlin Produce in 1935. Art eventually assumed ownership and relocated the business from Reynolds Road, Toledo, to its present location in Swanton. The farm specializes in growing flowers and plants. During his lifetime, Art was a member of the Toledo Grower’s Association, Valleywood Golf Club, the Elks and the Shrine.

Art is survived by his daughters Polly (James) Cross of Whitehouse, Ohio; and Patricia (John) Reed of Murrell’s Inlet, South Carolina; daughter-in-law Marsha (Ronald) Schmidlin; 10 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; his siblings, Evelyn Skinner and Fred Schmidlin; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members. He was preceded in death by his wife Marjorie (Seeman), sons Ronald and Robert Schmidlin, son-in-law James Cross, great grandson Andrew Samek, his parents and 7 siblings.

The family will receive visitors Tuesday, July 23rd from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. (Noon) at the Weigel Funeral Home, 204 Chestnut, Swanton, Ohio, (419.826.2631), where a Memorial Service celebrating Art’s life will be held immediately following the visitation at 12:00 p.m. (Noon). Interment will follow at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to The ALS Association Northern Ohio Chapter, 6155 Rockside Rd., Ste. 403, Independence, OH 44131.

Visitation: Tuesday, July 23rd from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm (Noon) at the Weige Funeral

Funeral Service: Tuesday, July 23rd at 12:00 pm (Noon) in the Funeral Home

Interment: Ottawa Hills Memorial Park
