Anna Philips LaFlure

Anna Philips Slocum LaFlure, 94, died peacefully on October 28 at her daughter’s home in Wauseon, OH, after a brief illness. She was popular resident at the Fulton Suites in Wauseon whereshe resided since 2007. Prior to her move north she resided in Largo, FL.

Ann was born on October 22, 1918, at home in Easton, NY, the second of three girls born to Alex and Lillian Surdam Slocum. After graduating from Hoosick Falls High School, Anna attended Green Mountain College, class of ’39, in Poultney, VT, and studied business. Ann married William (Bill) R. Laflure at her parents’ home in Hoosick Falls, NY, April 19, 1941, and they remained happily married for 47 years until his death in 1989. After living across the East Coast and South America during WWII while Bill worked in the FBI, they made their permanent residence in

Keeseville, NY, where Bill practiced law and they raised their two children. Ann worked as his office manager and after many years of practice when she decided to retire, Bill walked away from the practice days later, not wanting to work without her.

Those who met Ann who were immediately drawn to her wit and kind spirit. She had great enthusiasm for travel, was a clever crafter and had a love of word games; but above all she cherished time spent

with her family and friends.

She is preceded in death by her husband, William R. LaFlure, sisters Harriet Young and Mary Chisholm, and nephews David Young and Van Miles. She is survived by children Linda Nelson (Chris) and Russell LaFlure (Nora); grandchildren Kimberly Werring (Bill), Jessica Nelson, Sara Nelson-Veith (Jason), Krista Bailey and Steven Laflure (Laura); 3 great-grandchildren and her furry friend, Alfie.

In accordance with the deceased wishes, there will be no funeral service, and a private interment for the family will be held in the spring.
