Andrew Harding McNeill

October 5, 1958 — August 27, 2014

Friends and family may gather Wednesday, September 3rd from 4 to 8 pm at Valleywood Golf Club in Swanton

Andrew was born on October 5, 1958 and passed away at the Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Perrysburg on August 27, 2014 from recurrent CNS brain lymphoma.

Drew is survived by his wife, Patricia Helen (Sword)McNeill; his daughter, Mackenzy Leigh McNeill (Jack Dennis); Taylor Andrew McNeill (Lindsay MacDonald); mother, Geraldine (Harding) McNeill; sister, Mona (Frank) Dyke; nephew, Kyle Weaver; niece, Eva Dyke; the mother of his children, Stacy Benner; plus many cousins and great friends. He was preceded in death by his father Edward McNeill, grandparents Richard and Eva Harding, and Andrew and Annie McNeill.

Drew graduated from Swanton High School in 1977 and continued his education at Northwood (Institute) University in Midland, Michigan. Drew began working at his grandfather Harding's dealership at the age of 14, and continued working for his father, Ed, until Ed’s death in 1999 when Drew then became the third generation owner of the dealership now known as McNeill Chevrolet Buick. Andrew and his partner John LaRiche relocated the dealership from downtown Swanton to its present location on Airport Highway in 2003.

Drew enjoyed many outdoor activities: fishing, water skiing, snowmobiling and golfing. He was an avid golfer until his diagnosis in 2011 when Drew was in Montana snowmobiling with his buddies. In 1993 he teamed up with some golf friends for the Oldsmobile Scramble Tournament at Valleywood and proceeded all the way to Orlando to win the national championship title. Two things he looked forward to every year were his trip with “the guys” to Green Bay to watch the Packers play, with many golf outings on the way there and back. The other was Morel mushroom season, for which most of his great hunting spots will never be known.

Many thanks to the following people for their excellent care of Andrew for the last three and half years: Dr. Kara Hertzfeld ('the egg doc'), Dr. Rex Mowat ('Woody'), Gretchen Shirey, Renee White, Sheri Jenkins, Dr. Ken Levin, Dr. Steve Kalkanis, Dr. George Darah, The Hickman Cancer Center, and the Hospice of Northwest Ohio.

Per Drew's request, he was cremated, and there will be a gathering of friends and family at Valleywood Golf Course in Swanton on Wednesday, September 3, 2014, from 4-8pm. There will also be a celebration of his life in the spring when the Morel mushrooms are popping and the lilacs are in bloom.

Donations only (please, no flowers) to The Hickman Cancer Center at Flower Hospital 5200Harroun Road, Sylvania, OH 43560 or to the Hospice of Northwest Ohio, 30,000 East River Road, Perrysburg, OH 43551.
